Trinity Health applauds President Biden's decision to re-open the Health Insurance Marketplace on February 15—via a three-month special enrollment period—ultimately providing more Americans with immediate access to affordable health care coverage. During this time of economic distress and displacement, all who are uninsured or underinsured, including those who have lost employer-sponsored health insurance, may turn to HealthCare.Gov for assistance. The marketplace is trusted and appreciated by the 11.4 million Americans who currently use it to select their health insurance policies.

Trinity Health is committed to the principle that health care is a basic human right and that all Americans should have access to high-quality, comprehensive health care. Our commitment to this fundamental human right has never been more clear or strong than during this national pandemic; and why Trinity Health believes that advancing access to comprehensive, affordable health care coverage must include making it easier for individuals to be covered. Trinity Health contracts with multiple marketplace insurers in each of our markets because it advances care for the common good and creates opportunity to develop plans that focus on population health by linking provider payment to quality and outcomes instead of volume. More than 10 percent of the commercially insured people we serve in our purchase their health insurance from the marketplace. Additionally, reopening the marketplace will expand opportunity for communities hardest hit by COVID-19 and is a critical step toward achieving racial equity.
