In 1994, some leaders within the Boise community and within Saint Alphonsus Hospital formed relationships with some Catholic nuns and priests – among them being Father Rick Frechette - in the Port Au Prince area. Since then, the Saint Alphonsus Foundation has sent mission teams, shipments of medical supplies, pharmaceuticals and money to support the healing and hope in orphanages, hospitals, “pop-up clinics” and in “street medicine” initiatives to support life and living among the most vulnerable people in our world.
From natural disasters, political corruption, abject poverty and widespread infectious disease, Haiti has endured extraordinary horror and hardship – and most recently, violent gangs are ravaging the country and threatening every societal structure of safety.
Despite the tragedies, we hold tight to our friendship and faith, and work together to raise much-needed funds to, in the words of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, “embrace others in their suffering, and commit us to seek ways to journey together.”
This important work was recently highlighted in the Idaho Press with quotes from Father Rick Frechette and Jill Aldape, VP, Philanthropy, Saint Alphonsus Health System. Click here to read the article. You can learn more and help support Project Haiti by making a donation at this link.
