Trinity Health President and CEO Mike Slubowski Emphasizes the Importance of Healthy, Affordable Food
April 18, 2022Food insecurity is linked to some of the most common and costly health problems for all age groups including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and obesity. The direct and indirect health-related costs of hunger and food insecurity in the United States are estimated to be $160 billion.
Trinity Health is committed to improving access to healthy and affordable food. Our commitment includes establishing farms and food pantries at our hospitals, screening patients for social needs including food insecurity and connecting patients to services and resources. Our food access policy recommendations include strengthening federal nutrition programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and expanding nutrition education.
Trinity Health’s goal is to collaborate to connect social and clinical care, improve health access and outcomes and eliminate the widespread health disparities that continue to exist across our country.
