Trinity Health International (THI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Trinity Health, began as a part-time program in 1981 in response to requests for assistance from hospitals and ministries of health around the world. As a result of the growing volume of requests, THI became incorporated as a Michigan nonprofit organization in 1985.

Since then, THI has grown steadily, employing corporate staff, overseas staff, and short-term consultants to fulfill its mission. The organization accesses Trinity Health resources and personnel for both short- and long-term assignments.
