New CEO Named at Mount Carmel Health System
NOVI, MI (July 7, 2006) – Claus von Zychlin (ZICK-lin)
has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of Mount
Carmel Health System, a member hospital of Trinity Health
serving Columbus and surrounding communities in central Ohio.
His appointment is effective in mid-August.
"Mount Carmel is a flagship of Trinity Health's Unified
Enterprise Ministry,” said Michael Slubowski, President,
Hospital and Health Networks, Trinity Health. “We have
the utmost confidence in Claus’ ability to build on
Mount Carmel’s successful healing ministry in central
Ohio. His talent and personal qualities will enable a seamless
transition, and his vision will set the stage for a strong
future.”
Von Zychlin comes to Mount Carmel from Cincinnati, where
for the past seven years he has served as Executive Vice President
and Chief Operating Officer of TriHealth, a community partnership
of Bethesda Inc. and Catholic Health Initiatives comprised
of two hospitals, a physician practice group and various other
health care related entities.
His 29-year career history includes executive-level positions
at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati; Little Company of Mary
Hospital, Evergreen Park, Ill.; Saint Francis Hospital, Escanaba,
Mich.; Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria, Ill.; and Lutheran
Social Services of Illinois, Rockford. He received his bachelor’s
degree in accounting and business administration from Augustana
College and his master’s degree in finance and marketing
from Northern Illinois University.

leader at TriHealth and throughout his distinguished career
in health care,” said Michael Gonsiorowski, Chair of
the Mount Carmel Health System Board of Trustees and President
of National City Bank, Central Region. “His leadership
skills and commitment are evident to all who meet him. He
is highly successful at working closely with medical staff
in developing strong clinical programs while improving the
overall performance of hospitals.”
Mount Carmel Health System serves central Ohio with three
hospitals providing a wide spectrum of care. Combined, Mount
Carmel hospitals have 1,225 beds and 7,262 associates and
1,500 medical staff. Mount Carmel receives nearly 1 million
patient visits annually. Mount Carmel also operates numerous
outpatient services, home care, palliative and hospice care,
an ambulance and mobile intensive care service, a community
outreach program, a college of nursing, and a Medicare health
plan. In 2005, Mount Carmel received the Catholic Health Association’s
highest award – the “Achievement Citation.”
