Trinity Health Pledges $100,000 to Tsunami Relief;
Offers up to $100,000 Employee Donation Match
Novi, Michigan – Trinity Health is contributing $100,000
to relief efforts connected to the Dec. 26 earthquake and
tsunami that ravaged parts of Indonesia, India, Thailand
and Sri Lanka.
In addition, Trinity Health will match – up to an
additional $100,000 – any employee contributions that
have been or will be made through Trinity Health International
(THI), a subsidiary of Trinity Health.
THI will administer the funds with special attention to
the needs of children, particularly those served by the Mercy
Home and Grace Care Center orphanage in Trincomalee, Sri
Lanka.
"The rending of families, homes and towns evoked an
outpouring of compassion and aid for those who suffer in
the aftermath,” said Gretchen Elliott, RSM, Senior
Vice President, Mission Integration, Trinity Health. “We
know that many across our health system contributed early
to that outpouring of support in one way or another. Now
that we have a clearer understanding of the needs, Trinity
Health is directing its focus to an orphanage in Sri Lanka – and
a commitment to match employee donations.”
Trinity Health has supported the orphanage and medical center
since 2001 with equipment, medicine and other supplies. In
the days immediately following disaster, scores of primary
caregivers and skilled trades people from Saint Joseph Mercy
Health System, Ann Arbor, Mich., organized trips to Sri Lanka
to provide much needed medical care and to help rebuild the
orphanage.
