Trinity Health Statement on Suit Filed Regarding
Public Act 619
"Trinity Health is participating in this lawsuit because
we believe a relocation of beds should only occur with a Certificate
of Need. Public Act 619 allows for the relocation of as many
as 2,000 beds into Oakland County without CON. Therefore,
we believe the law is bad public policy, and the appropriate
way to challenge state law is through the courts. Our fiduciary
responsibility to our communities and our health system requires
that we take this action.
"Trinity Health believes the highest priority should be the
revision of the bed need analysis. If a revised bed methodology
shows a need for beds in western Oakland County, then hospitals
should apply for a CON under the competitive, comparative
review process.
"This issue has implications for the hospitals serving western
Wayne and Oakland counties, as well as business and industry.
The fact that Trinity Health, Botsford, Beaumont, Mount Clemens
General and Saginaw-based Covenant HealthCare, plus the Economic
Alliance, have joined together shows the high degree of concern
by providers and the business community."
