Paul Browne of Trinity Health Named
One of Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders

Novi, Michigan – Trinity Health today announced that Chief Information Officer Paul Browne has been recognized by IDG’s Computerworld, the worldwide source for technology and management news, as one of the international business world’s Premier 100 IT Leaders. The award honors individuals who have creatively applied technology to execute their organization’s business strategy.

The complete list of honorees appears online at http://premier100.com and in the Dec. 11 issue of Computerworld. Of the 100 honorees featured on the international list, Browne is the only CIO from the health care industry and one of only three from Michigan-based organizations.

”We at Trinity Health are proud of Paul Browne’s innovative leadership and dedicated IS team,” said Joseph Swedish, President and CEO, Trinity Health. “Under Paul’s leadership, the IT infrastructure at Trinity Health is enabling enhancements in both patient safety and quality of care across our 44 owned and managed hospitals. Paul also is a major supporter of our efforts to build a culture that embraces technology as a critical tool for safe and effective care delivery and information sharing.”

Trinity Health is one of the largest health systems undertaking full electronic health records (EHR) integration, including computerized physician order entry (CPOE), Adverse Drug Event (ADE) alert systems and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). As CIO, Browne oversees the implementation of the $315 million initiative that will integrate computer systems within 24 Trinity Health-owned community health systems in seven states. Hospitals will use common information systems to manage patient records, enter physician orders and manage finances and supplies. Once complete, Trinity Health will have one of the largest central data repositories of evidence-based patient information in the country.

“Implementing just one of these systems in an individual hospital would be a tall order,” said Swedish. “Trinity Health recently notched the system’s ninth successive activation of clinical and revenue management information systems, and we’re getting ready to activate our tenth hospital in March 2007.”

Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Leaders Awards program honors executives who show exemplary technology leadership in resolving pressing business problems. Honorees demonstrate the ability to foster creativity and challenging work environments, envision fresh approaches to business challenges and effectively manage IT investments.

“The professionals honored in Computerworld's 2007 Premier 100 IT Leaders program, and by extension the organizations they represent, are clearly mindful of their role and obligation as leaders of the global IT community,” said Don Tennant, editor-in-chief, Computerworld. “Their willingness to brave the scrutiny of the limelight as they share their experiences with their peers has won our respect, appreciation, and deep admiration.”
