GALA TO SUPPORT SPECIALTY CARE FOR THE POOR
Mercy Primary Care Center fund-raiser set for April 22
at Masonic Temple
DETROIT, Mich. – Mercy Primary Care Center has announced
April 22 as the date for its second annual Gala fund-raiser
to benefit specialty care services for the poor and underserved
in Detroit.
Themed “Mission In Motown,” the Gala will take
place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple in downtown
Detroit. The event begins with a silent auction and includes
a cocktail reception, dinner and special music by Gwen & Charles
Scales and harpist Lydia Cleaver. Sharon McClendon, WB20
local anchor of “Positively Detroit,” will preside
over the event as the Gala’s Mistress of Ceremonies.
Door and raffle prizes will be awarded. Local celebrities
and special Motown guests also are expected to appear.
The “Mission in Motown” Gala provides a fun
and effective means for community members to bolster the
mission of Mercy Primary Care Center. Located on Detroit’s
east side, the clinic offers free primary care to the poor
and uninsured. In its brief three-and-a-half-year history,
Mercy Primary Care Center has served more than 3,700 uninsured
adults.
The goal of the Gala is to increase funds available for
specialty care services. Trinity Health, the parent of Mercy
Primary Care Center, provides more than $2 million annually
in direct financial support. However, the need for a broader
offering of specialty services – and corresponding
funds – is great, as evidenced by the wide variety
of health concerns seen at the Center.
“Lack of health insurance creates a barrier to advanced
care, which negatively impacts health outcomes and quality
of life for the uninsured,” said Donna Littlejohn,
Executive Director of the Center. “We must do all we
can to improve access to specialty care for those who have
no means to pay.” Tickets for the “Mission in Motown” Gala fund-raiser
may be purchased by calling 313.579.4005, faxing a request
to 313.579.4064, or sending an email to byrdj@trinity-health.org. |
