Dr. McCahill Joins the Lacks Cancer Center 09/01/2009 Dr. McCahill is joining the Lacks Cancer Center team in October 2009 as Surgical Oncologist, primarily responsible for helping guide gastrointestinal malignancy treatment planning. Dr McCahill, with a clinical interest in gastrointestinal, hepatic, and soft tissue tumors, will also work to lead the Gastrointestinal Multidisciplinary Clinic, which combines a clinical research, multidisciplinary treatment planning, and a multidisciplinary clinic. Dr McCahill will add significantly to Saint Mary’s already robust and leading team of trained surgeons.
Most recently, Dr McCahill was an associate professor of surgery at the University of Vermont. He has over three dozen published manuscripts in the field of surgical oncology, with many pending for publication. Dr. McCahill's recent research experience includes a Phase II trial of 5-Fluorouracil, Leucovorin, and Oxaliplatin Chemotherapy plus bevacizumab for patients with unresectable Stage IV colon cancer and a synchronous asymptomatic primary tumor, of which he is the protocol chair. In 2007, he served as the principal investigator in funding for research in colorectal liver cancer metastases patient education and support. In 2006, he was the principal investigator on a study regarding patient decision-making for surgery of colorectal metastases to the liver. Over the course of his medical career, he has served as the principal investigator or the co-investigator for over half a dozen similar studies.
