Trinity Health Leadership

Daniel P. Dwyer, PhD
Senior Vice President Mission Integration

Daniel Dwyer provides leadership in preserving and nurturing the Catholic identity of Trinity Health in diverse settings. His focus is the integration of the Mission and Core Values and Catholic social teachings into the strategic plan, structures and operations especially advanced by the creation of a leadership formation curriculum.

His 30-year career has spanned many levels of service to health systems, hospitals, primary care clinics, long-term care facilities, medical colleges and physician groups. For the past five years, he has served at the Sisters of Mercy Health System in Missouri, first as its Director of Ethics and most recently as its Director of Mission and Community Health.

Before that, Dwyer lived and worked in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he developed and implemented educational programs at the University of Michigan, and taught spirituality and ethics courses for medical students and residents. He also served as an independent consultant and educator, providing strategic planning and quality management services to regional, state and national health care organizations. Among his many responsibilities, he developed and facilitated retreats and workshops on spirituality, mission effectiveness, social justice, ethics and integrative health care.

Dwyer earned his Master of Theology in Health Care Mission from the Aquinas School of Theology in St. Louis, and both a master’s degree in social work and Doctor of Philosophy in Urban Social Institutions from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He completed his undergraduate work in English and philosophy from Marquette University.
