Among the highest-ranking Hispanic women in health care, Ms. Canales models passion, courage, truthfulness, and a commitment to bring wholeness and sustainable health into the world. She engages the varied and unique gifts of all associates in the spirit of integrity, creativity and effective growth, which allows her to fulfill her calling to “ignite souls to reach their full potential.” She believes in transcending competition to collaboration, openness for change and innovative thinking. She guides human resources into a strategic lever by leading the chief human resource officers throughout the enterprise to elevate their work from transactional to trusted business adviser.

At Trinity Health, she leads the people functions for the system, which include Talent Planning and Effectiveness, Total Rewards, Talent and Performance Management, Diversity and Organizational Development, Culture Transformation and Engagement, and Communications and Public Relations.

Ms. Canales’s career has spanned global Fortune 500 organizations. She has worked with Compaq Computer Corporation, Centura Health, and KFC / PepsiCo (Yum). Ms. Canales also volunteers in organizations such as Inforum in Detroit; the Society for Human Resource Management; the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration; and the boards of the American Society of Employers (which honored her as the Michigan 2007 HR Executive of the Year), the Women’s Vision Foundation, the Breakaway Group, and the Iliff School of Theology in Denver Business-to-Business advisory board.

Ms. Canales is sought after for speaking engagements and press interviews by organizations ranging from Harvard’s School of Public Health and the Medical Group Management Association to HealthLeaders magazine.
